FREE WORKSHOP REGISTRATION: FLYE: Nicosia Democracy Simulator – Fill out form
The Nicosia Study Visit brings together FLYE partner organisations and young participants for an intensive three-day transnational learning experience focused on participatory budgeting and democratic practice. Hosted in Nicosia, the visit combines peer exchange, methodological training, and experiential learning, creating a shared space for reflection on youth participation, civic engagement, and decision-making processes.
A central component of the study visit is the Participatory Budgeting Game, which introduces participants to the principles, stages, and values of participatory budgeting through a structured, interactive methodology. Participants engage with real-world constraints, stakeholder roles, and limited resources, translating abstract concepts of financial literacy, accountability, and governance into practical experience.
Building on this, the visit features a Democracy Simulation Game, designed as a youth-led scenario that mirrors local-level democratic processes. Through role-play, deliberation, negotiation, and collective decision-making, participants explore themes of representation, inclusion, power dynamics, compromise, and responsibility. The simulation allows young people to actively test democratic tools in a safe learning environment, strengthening critical citizenship skills and confidence.
Overall, the Nicosia Study Visit functions as both a methodological pilot and a capacity-building moment, reinforcing FLYE’s participatory approach while fostering transnational dialogue, shared understanding, and the exchange of good practices among partners and youth participants.
